You're Grounded!!

Dr. Chow reminded us how important it is to ground your client. And it is just as important (if not more important) to ground ourselves. Why? After a recent visit with our Acupuncturist, we discovered that not grounding ourselves after each session could lead to physical imbalances of the heart. Makes sense . . . whenever we put our hands on our clients, an energetic connection is cultivated. As massage therapists and bodyworkers, we are constantly reaching out with our hands to help and support people. It has been said that the hands and arms are the wings of the heart. Perhaps there are times we overreach and our hearts grow tired or weak.

Some prefer knowing to being.

Their illness is in their heads.

Some prefer being to knowing.

Their illness is in their hearts.

She who knows her illness is

in her heart

Is halfway home

-Tao of Healing

Creating relationship within and for ourselves is the opportunity to ground. Daily meditations, a practice of stillness, walking, yoga, tai chi all help us to rebalance our own personal energy. After each session a conscious choice to disengage by taking a 6 second breath, bouncing on your heels, stretching, even washing your hands with a grounding intention, can foster a balanced heart. This ain’t your Mama’s grounding!!
